Custom Artwork for Your Interior Palette: Color, Texture & Finish

Custom artwork gives you the flexibility to carry a project’s palette and material selections into its finishing details.

At The KM Group, we produce originals in-house and develop bespoke commissions with partner artists for high-end residential and commercial interiors. We work from your design direction to translate colors, textures, and finishes into artwork that belongs within the space, whether your vision calls for subtle continuity or a distinct focal point.

Start With the Palette You Have Developed

Fabric, stone, wood, and metal samples provide a useful starting point for custom art commissions. Alongside room photographs and elevations, these references help communicate the relationships you want the artwork to support. A blue in an upholstery sample might become a small accent, while the warm tones of nearby wood could inform the background.

Your brief can identify:

  • Primary colors and accents: Which tones should lead the composition, appear sparingly, or be avoided.
  • Texture and surface preferences: Whether the artwork should feel smooth, layered, dimensional, or visibly worked by hand.
  • The intended visual impact: Whether the piece should blend with surrounding finishes, introduce contrast, or anchor the room.

Review Color Beyond the Screen

Digital renderings help you assess composition, placement, and overall color direction before production. They also provide a practical way to request changes, such as softening a background or reducing the prominence of an accent. However, a screen cannot fully represent physical pigments, surface texture, or reflective materials. Physical references help guide production, and reviewing materials in the intended lighting, where practical, gives a clearer basis for color decisions than a digital color code alone.

Specify Texture and Finish Alongside Color

  • A matte surface can support a quieter presentation, while a glossy finish introduces reflections that should be considered alongside windows and lighting.
  • Raised texture and dimensional elements create highlights and shadows, making the surface itself part of the composition.
  • Metallic details can relate to hardware or furnishings, with their appearance shifting according to the light and viewing angle.

The same palette can produce very different results across these treatments. Including texture, sheen, and depth in the initial brief helps us select an appropriate medium and production approach for your custom artwork.

Refine the Artwork Around Your Design

You lead the interior design, and we develop the artwork in collaboration with you. Our process includes revisions to digital renderings, progress reviews, and adjustments during production. Feedback can address color balance, the scale of a detail, or the relationship between elements in the composition. We coordinate refinements with the studio or partner artist, with final approval before delivery.
